Personal Statement:
A one- to two-page clearly articulated statement of purpose.
The statement of purpose should contain information about your prior academic training and the motivations for pursuing pursue doctoral study in general and second language acquisition at The University of Iowa in particular, with some description of possible areas of specific interest. We read the statement of purpose to get evidence of a clear focus of scholarly interest and of the fit between this focus and our program.
Recommendation Letter:
Three letters of recommendation from faculty members familiar with the student's record
Writing Sample:
The writing sample should demonstrate your ability to synthesize and analyze information from academic sources using standard academic English. It might be a paper written for a previous graduate course or a portion of a master’s thesis. If you use the latter, please write a cover memo to locate it in the larger work. Please note that the sample will not be returned.
