Undergraduate record, or both Undergraduate and Graduate record if entering with a post-baccalaureate degree
Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended since high school (secondary school) are required – these should be sent directly to the Anthropology Department. If they are sent to the Graduate Admissions Office, the review of your application will be delayed. If the highest degree earned is from a foreign institution, please see the Required Academic Records from International Institutions( https://graduate.ucr.edu/international-academic-records ) for information. For United States institutions, a GPA of 3.2 or higher is considered acceptable for graduate admission.
Curriculum Vitae:
A resumé or Curriculum vitae (academic resumé) is helpful. Include relevant experiences, internships, papers written, collaborations with other students or faculty. It’s also helpful (it may be in a personal statement) to let the recommender know if you’ve overcome unusual obstacles in achieving your goals. Information about retail or service positions are not usually relevant for applications to academic positions, programs, or fellowships.
Personal Statement:
Applicants must submit these essays directly into their online application. Please note that each essay should not duplicate the other. We also do not accept a personal resume or curriculum vitae as a response to either essay.
The Statement of Purpose is your opportunity to state your specific interests with respect to the program to which you are applying. Your intended area of specialization, career objectives and research interests and experience are of particular interest.
Recommendation Letter:
Letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant's potential for achieving academic and professional excellence. Provide details about where you are applying and why. Include your statement of intent, personal statement, and/or proposal that reveals what you are planning to do with the fellowship, grant, job, or graduate degree for which you are applying. Information about the program/foundation is useful, especially if it’s one with which the recommender is not familiar. Your recommender needs to see your personal statement or proposal well before you send it in, in case there are changes needed. Remember, the recommender’s reputation is on the line in writing for you and mistakes or poorly organized proposals are a lousy reflection on the program, not just you.
