Transcript:
You must submit official transcripts from each institution that you indicate on your application to the UF Office of Admissions. As an international applicant you must submit all of your transcripts in the original language with a certified English translation and a copy of your degree/diploma in the original language with a certified English translation. All of your credentials have to be reviewed by our international admissions officer for credibility and this can take several months depending on the time of year. Upon our departmental review, if a favorable decision is reached and your official documents have not been received, we cannot process our decision.
Curriculum Vitae:
Applicants may submit a resume as a supporting document. It should be sent via e-mail to gradinfo@essie.ufl.edu or it can be uploaded into the admission application if space permits.
Personal Statement:
You will need to upload this into your on-line application. This statement should provide us with a clear justification telling us: 1) Why are you interested in pursuing a degree in the Department? 2) What do you have to offer as far as skills and motivation? 3) Which faculty member would you like to work with? 4) What is your particular area of interest within the field and why? 5) Do you need funding? Or have you secured your own funding for your entire program of study through personal funds or an outside agency? What is the name of the outside agency? 6)(EES Applicants only) Are you pursuing a coursework only or thesis/dissertation track?
Recommendation Letter:
Three must be submitted electronically through this system and the instructions are within the application. Again, we no longer accept paper copies as this slows the review process of your application.
Writing Sample:
All samples should be submitted in .pdf format. Fiction applicants should submit two stories, part of a novel, or a story and part of a novel, the total not to exceed 25 pp. Poetry applicants should submit six to ten poems. Admission to the program is based primarily upon the manuscript: the writing faculty considers your writing before all else. No Statement of Purpose is required.
